Business Development & Market Intelligence Analyst

Department: Operations
Location: Summerville, SC

Position Summary:

The Business Development & Market Intelligence Analyst supports the company’s growth strategy by identifying opportunities early, organizing business-development activity, tracking relationships, and making sure the company is consistently present in the places where future work is discussed and influenced.

This person will monitor local government and planning activity, attend relevant public hearings and industry events, research upcoming developments, uncover potential project leads, coordinate meetings and relationship-building activities, and maintain an organized pipeline of opportunities and contacts.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, curious, proactive, comfortable interacting with people, and willing to dig through public information to identify opportunities before they become obvious bid opportunities. This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Job Duties:

  • Promote and enforce JWC principles – God, Family, Empathy, Pride, Honor, Integrity, Safety, Accountability, Quality and Teamwork.
  • Monitor city, county, planning commission, zoning, design review, utility, and other relevant public meetings for potential site-development opportunities.
  • Review agendas, minutes, rezoning requests, development applications, planning documents, permits, and other public information to identify future projects.
  • Attend selected government hearings and meetings and provide concise summaries of relevant projects, developers, engineers, contractors, timelines, and next steps.
  • Research potential developments and identify the key decision-makers associated with each opportunity.
  • Maintain a forward-looking BD opportunity pipeline from early intelligence through bid opportunity and award.
  • Help identify opportunities before plans are issued for bidding.
  • Track developers, general contractors, engineers, owners, municipalities, and other strategic relationships.
  • Coordinate and schedule customer meetings, lunches, dinners, and other BD activities.
  • Maintain a centralized BD calendar so leadership can see upcoming meetings, events, hearings, follow-ups, and relationship opportunities.
  • Prepare leadership before meetings with short background briefs on the company, individuals, active projects, previous interactions, and desired outcome of the meeting.
  • Document meetings and ensure follow-up items are assigned and completed.
  • Maintain an organized CRM or similar tracking system for contacts, opportunities, meetings, and follow-ups.
  • Assist with industry association participation and identify events where company attendance would provide value.
  • Coordinate with estimating and operations to understand target markets, capacity, upcoming workload, and the types of projects the company should pursue.
  • Produce a concise weekly BD report showing new leads, upcoming meetings/events, important government activity, opportunities requiring action, and pipeline changes.
  • Develop relationships over time and become comfortable representing the company at industry and community events.
  • Analyze market intel: estimate market growth, assess competitive landscape, forecast demand.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

· Experience in business development support, market research, project coordination, or a related role.

· Demonstrated ability to research public records, meeting agendas, development applications, and other sources; verify information; and summarize findings into actionable project leads.

· Strong organizational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate contact records, track opportunities, coordinate meetings, and manage multiple deadlines and follow-up items.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn and maintain a CRM or similar opportunity-tracking system.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise reports and meeting briefs and interact professionally with customers, public officials, and industry contacts.

· Ability to work independently, take initiative, exercise sound judgment, and handle confidential business information with discretion.

· Ability to attend local government meetings, customer meetings, and industry events, including occasional evening commitments and local travel.

· Must obtain a negative drug test result prior to hire and maintain throughout term of employment.
